Stampeed Breakfast
This morning I joined Sarah W from work and who also lives in the same area as I do, for a Stampeed Breakfast in the parking lot at our local strip mall. We got there bright and early - 8am. Good thing too as by 9am the line for pancakes and sausage was wrapped about the parking lot sectioned off for the event (probably 50-75 people).
During our breakfast, these young fiddlers provided wonderful entertainment for us. The music reminded me of another young group of fiddlers from Thunder Bay - Kam Valley Fiddlers. They had the TB Symphony accompany them once. Great music. You find your toes are tapping to the music before you knew it. It reminded me of the concerts in Louisbourgh, Nova Scotia (Cape Breton) and at the College of Piping in Summerside, PEI. My mom and I got to experience the culture of the Maritimes in 2002. Definitely recommend these places on your list of travels.
This guy is playing the Bodhran. It has a great beat and compliments the music being played. It is a familar instrument for Celtic/Keltic music as well as the East Coast of Canada. One of my favourite bands is from Newfoundland - Great Big Sea - and the Bodhran is one of the instruments they use in their songs. At times it can give a song a haunting tone.
