The joys of little ones...
Tonight after purchasing my curtains, I stopped by the James household. There are I found Andy and Char with 6 of their grandchildren. The kids and Char were watching The Rescuers Down Under, while Andy was getting supper ready on the BBQ. A few of them ran up to me to give me a hug. The youngest grandchild there, Hudson who will be 2 in January, has been typically shy around me, so boy did I get a surprise today. Hudson walked over to my chair and he allowed me to pick him up and he lended his head to my shoulder. It was funny as he got shy while I was holding him. Both Char and I were happily surprised by those turn of events. I ended up staying for supper and I sat between Ethan and Hudson. Ethan now calls me Lola (it is so cute I must admit). I can honestly tell you, dinner is always busy with conversations and getting the food ready for the kids. With some of them not really saying full sentences or words, it is like a guessing game or a pointing game - but we finally get it. (NB: Mom I now can appreciate what you went through at that age and some say I have my own language and still need interpretation - that goodness Melissa from work is a quick study).
After dinner, our thunderstorm and hail came so that entertained the kids abit. Totally amazed - Sierra and Emma even went out on the patio to get some of the hail to show the littlier ones. It definitely cooled things off inside the house too. Char had to do a couple of things in the basement, so Andy and I were in charge of the little ones. Found out they enjoy playing peekaboo - Hudson, Josiah and Ethan got right into it.
For someone who does not have children, they sure do make you feel good - esp those hugs and kisses you get from them. Hard not to leave without smiling a few times during a visit. It has been fun being "Auntie Laura" and getting to know them and their personalities too. Thank you to my James family for all those moments with the little ones that just make my day.
