Family comes in different ways...
In my life, I have been blessed with such a wonderful circle of friends. These friends are really like my second family. My other family is the friendships I have made in my church family both here in Calgary and the one back in Thunder Bay. Those friendships have seen me through some rough times but also celebrated my accomplishments. So despite not having my own family here in Calgary during the holidays this year, I shared the holiday season with the James family. I was sharing with Amy and Sara the other day - I really don't know what my life would be like, if the James family weren't in it.
It is amazing at times, how one encounter can spark a lifetime of encouragement, support, love for one each other and great memories (made a few more this Christmas). Through my sister's friend we were introduced to Dorion Bible Camp where I first met Andy James as the Camp Director at the age of 7. (It will be 30 years this summer!!) Who would have guess that, that one week at camp would bring such a blessing to my life. I am friends with not only Andy and Char but with all their children and now their children (Ocean gave me my first Auntie birthday card- that was so cool and I was touched by her thoughtfulness). A couple of years ago, we celebrated Andy's 60th birthday, and how special I felt when I was introduced as the 8th James. I don't know if there was a defining moment, of when our relationship went from friends to family - all I know is, that simply that is how it is. Even my mom shared with me today - she is so happy that I have the James' in my life and here in Calgary and Three Hills.
