Challenges met...well almost
I just came back from a beautiful week in the Rockies. In September I received an email from a friend from TB, wanting to go on a trip with me. Someone had mentioned the Columbia Icefields, so after some research on the internet I found a self-drive tour from Calgary to Jasper and back to Calgary.
This was our first trip together - that challenge was met with flying colours. It didn't take too long into our trip when we knew when to be silent (just wanting to soak in the mountains, you don't want conversation to take away from that) and also when we needed to give space to each other. We shared past adventures around TB we had with our gang of gals, time for sharing and definitely time for laughter.
I was able to do all the driving except for a small portion of the Icefield Parkway - this province and BC don't believe in guard rails, so on the drive back to Banff, I was no longer hugging the mountain (that was going to Jasper) and my fear of heights got the better of me. Very lucky that Sandra was able to help me out and drive us through that point. Being a young driver (in years of experience) it was a good confidence booster that I was able to do the amount of driving I did do.
As I mentioned the height problem - well I did all 3 gondolas (Lake Louise, Jasper and Banff) - yes I was facing the mountain, but the point was I made it up and of course down. Sandra and I walked a good part on each of our days in the Rockies too. It has been like 30 years since Sandra has been to Calgary and the Rockies, so I wanted this trip to be special for her - it was for both of us. I took plenty of photos, I will work on it this week sharing some of the photos of the trip.
