Fall in Calgary

On my drive home on Friday up Shagnappi Trail, I decided to stop at one of the entrances to Nose Hill Park. If I remember correctly, Nose Hill Park is the largest urban park in Canada and maybe North America (someone can correct me on that if you know the correct answer). We had a beautiful day, so I thought I would go for a short trek. Only wildlife I saw were the 6 dogs with their respective owners. I must say that these photos do not do justice of the beauty of the fall landscape as you drive south on the Shagnappi - breath-taking. Especially with the mountains framing the back of the landscape scenery. I was just thinking that this would be a future feat - to walk the whole Nose Hill Park - now that would be the ultimate challenge for me. Realizing that Calgary's weather is a general rollercoaster - this morning I woke up with wet snow on the ground and our high was in the single digits. So one never knows what each day will bring - weather wise at least as it changes so often, so I will take those sunny days whenever I am able. Posted by Picasa

Rouge Park is a large "urban" park located in east end Toronto. Most of it is actually not an urban park in the strictest sense of the term, but is actually a rather large rural area where development was declared off-limits, then established as a park. People still live and even farm there. It is the only remaining rural area in the city of Toronto.

Established in 1995 by the Province of Ontario, the park consist of 50 square kilometres of parkland (or 12356 acres), mostly in Toronto, but some is located in Markham, Ontario. The park was created as a means to protect some of the watershed. The Rouge River remains the healthiest river that flows through Toronto.

The park is part of the Rouge River Park system and the largest urban park in North America. It stretches from Lake Ontario to the Oak Ridges Moraine in York Region.

So ... if you don't count Rouge Park then ...Nose Hill Park, is the largest municipal park in Canada, It is a natural environment park with a size of 11.27 km2.
