Life without a Car....

Hi there. Today makes me think - what if I didn't have Suzie Zachary (a former coworker from Thunder Bay) hound me mercifully that summer of 2000 on getting my driving licence. She said you will be almost 30 - come on get that licence. So two week shy of my 30th I got my beginners (then took off to Montreal for my cousin's wedding, surprising them when I said that I passed my beginner's exam and have signed up for Young Drivers classes).

Well, 5 years later.... how did I do it all those years without a car??? Mind-blogging!!! The car came in handy when my girlfriend got married and I was maid of honour (all that running around). That same year I was the main coordinator for my 4 Presbyterian churches taking 16 teenagers to Purdue Indiana for an international Presbyterian youth conference. Of course, my trip to the Maritimes (Mom thought I needed practice and I drove the whole 1700 km trip) and my road trip to Calgary. You so need a car to live in Calgary and once you know their road system it is quite easy to get around. You will be a pro in no time. Today is another excellent example of when knowing how to drive is great. We are celebrating my friend's birthday this weekend and surprise guests are coming into town today. Between all us kids (I am adopted by the James family) we are picking people up at the airport and arranging transport out to Kananaskis (near Canmore) for an evening of fun family time. Tomorrow we head back to Chestermere for an open house to celebrate further with family, friends and congregation members too. People have also told me (and I too see it) that my confidence in how I approach things have changed since learning how to drive too. You pretty much have to gain confidence as you have this freedom of the world is ready to explore. It was fun having that road trip with Amy last March as I moved out to Calgary. I did all the driving (confidence booster went up ten fold for sure!!). So if you read this Suzie - thanks for busting my chops on getting my licence. I appreciate it, but I am sure all my friends do too. PS - Have a Happy St. Patty's Day too!!
